It was only a matter of time considering how many Total War: Warhammer games there are, but Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is finally real. Announced during The Game Awards 2025 with the help of actor David Harbour, who will be playing a yet-to-be-revealed character in the game, Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is being designed as a new way to experience Total War. Players will command armies across a huge galactic sandbox as Creative Assembly aims to create the ultimate strategy experience for the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
The announcement trailer features pre-alpha footage, but Creative Assembly already has a bit to share on this title, unlike the recently announced Total War: Medieval III. In Total War: Warhammer 40,000, players will have the opportunity to lead campaigns across four factions: Space Marines, Orks, Aeldari, and Astra Militarum. They’ll be able to personalize their own army by naming the warband, choosing colors, as well as modifying their units with different abilities, traits, and wargear.
Those who are excited to hear more can tune into a small roundtable on December 16, featuring members of the development team. While this won’t be a big gameplay deep dive, it will share more insights into the project and how they’re bringing Warhammer 40,000 to the Total War franchise.
For now, there’s no release date, but Creative Assembly promises that it’ll have much to share in 2026. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC when it does release.
