Switch 2 is getting an expanded and exclusive version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants, with Trailmark Games announcing the Ninja Edition for a September 4 digital launch. A physical release follows on October 9, and preorders are open today at $29.99 on the Nintendo eShop and at major retailers.
Leading the changes are two new playable characters, as Master Splinter and Casey Jones join the roster for the first time. Both are firsts for this game. The Ninja Edition also takes advantage of the newer hardware, running at 1080p in handheld mode and 4K docked, both at 60 FPS, with HDR support and faster loading times. Graphics quality gets a bump as well, including reflection effects, anti-aliasing, enhanced lighting, and dynamic shadows.
As for the game itself, Wrath of the Mutants is an arcade beat ’em up from Cradle Games and Raw Thrills based on the 2012 Nickelodeon series, with Seth Green, Sean Astin, Rob Paulsen, and Greg Cipes voicing Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. Inspired by classics like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, it has you fighting the Foot Clan and Shredder across stages like Coney Island and Dimension X. The console version packs six stages and 13 boss battles, including three stages and six boss battles that weren’t in the original arcade release, along with character-specific super attacks and tokens that summon mutant backup. Up to four players can team up in local couch co-op.
Between this and PlatinumGames taking over Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, which resurfaced at Summer Game Fest in June, the Turtles have a busy stretch ahead. The Ninja Edition’s digital release lands about five weeks ahead of the physical one, though, so anyone set on a boxed copy has a bit of a wait.
