Blythe Melin Is the New Voice of Osiris Reborn’s Captain

Back in May, Owlcat Games confirmed it was recasting the male protagonist of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, saying the original performance felt less expressive than the team wanted after more than 7,000 players filled out its closed beta survey. Today, the studio revealed who is taking over. Blythe Melin is the new voice of the male Captain, and since the Captain has an identical twin brother named J who shares his face, Melin voices him as well. Owlcat says Melin previously worked on Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Diablo IV, and Ready or Not, and the studio put together a short video comparing the old and new performances.

Even though the protagonist’s appearance is fully customizable, Owlcat has also updated the default look of the male Martian Captain and J, moving away from what the studio describes as a generic military design with a more detailed character model. The idea is to give players a better starting point when creating their own Captain, who can be an Earther, Martian, or Belter. Melin said voicing two related characters was a unique challenge compared to his other video game work, since he wanted to make sure neither felt one-note or too similar to the other, with J being the more carefree and relaxed of the two.

As I said when the closed beta was announced, The Expanse is one of my favorite TV shows of all time, and Osiris Reborn has been one of my most anticipated upcoming games since its reveal at last year’s Future Games Show. It remains one of the games I’m most looking forward to in 2027. The beta, which is limited to those who purchased the Miller’s Pack or Collector’s Edition from the game’s official site, stays open until launch. Owlcat says it will share details on additional cast members at a later date, and The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is scheduled for spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC.
