During an investor call today, Blizzard Entertainment CEO Mike Morhaime stated that the upcoming Titan MMO is “unlikely to be subscription-based” meaning that even Blizzard Entertainment is looking into the world of free-to-play. World of Warcraft, one of the remaining subscription-based games that does well, saw subscriber numbers drop to 7.7 million last quarter. Many recent MMO releases have gone the route of free-to-play with payable DLC or in-game items that cost real money.
Unfortunately, Morhaime had nothing else to reveal about the Titan MMO project, simply reiterating that the game has no official announced or projected release date. Several months ago, the company announced that it was undergoing “large design and technology” changes to Titan, moving members from the team to other Blizzard titles while Titan gets reconstructed.
