Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call made an appearance at the 2013 Tokyo Game Show and Square Enix has released a new trailer for the upcoming Nintendo 2DS and 3DS title.
The original Theatrhythm Final Fantasy was released in North America on July 3, 2012 before heading to the iOS on December 13, 2012. Billed as a rhythm video game, it allowed players to relive memorable points in the Final Fantasy series while tapping away with a stylus on the Nintendo 3DS.
As for its sequel, Curtain Call, it will feature over 200 songs – 90 more in addition to the full track catalog of the original game. Additions that gamers will get to look forward to in Curtain Call include tracks from Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy Type-0 and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Personally I’d like to see the Garuda fight track from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn added to the list.
New features joining Curtain Call include a quest medley mode which combines field and battle tunes into a single experience, collectible cards with power ups and a multiplayer mode that is essentially a battle between two players on a single song. According to Theatrhythm’s producer Ichiro Hazama, Curtain Call may be the final title in the Theatrhythm series.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call will be released in spring 2014 in Japan, no word yet on when it’s coming to North America. You can watch the trailer from Tokyo Game Show 2013 below.
