Closing off today’s Nintendo Direct was an announcement that many have been hoping for, but few believed would actually come. The Tomodachi Life series will return in 2026 with its first brand new entry in over 10 years with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. It’ll be available for the Switch and presumably the Switch 2, which we will learn more about next week on April 2.

The first look trailer for Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, however, showed off numerous Mii characters living their lives on an island in the sea. Nintendo is mostly keeping quiet on details, which is to be expected considering the game isn’t set to release for another year. However, it definitely has the makings of what we would expect from a Tomodachi Life game, although the end of the trailer features a particularly gigantic Mii that seems a little ominous.

The original Tomodachi Life launched in the U.S. in 2014 on the Nintendo 3DS and is a sim game featuring Nintendo’s iconic Mii characters. Each Mii has a different personality and stats, which affect how they interact with other Miis, possibly even forming relationships. For now, we will have to wait to hear more details, but Tomodachi Life fans can finally rest easy; their long-awaited sequel is finally arriving.
