Bethesda Game Studios is getting ready to launch Starfield this September, which looks quite good as it was shown during this year’s Xbox Games Showcase. But another eagerly anticipated title from the same studio won’t be arriving anytime soon. During the ongoing FTC and Microsoft trial, Xbox’s Phil Spencer was asked a question about console exclusivity on Bethesda’s games, including The Elder Scrolls VI.

“As I said, with Elder Scrolls VI, it’s so far out–it’s hard to understand what platforms will even be at this point,” said Spencer. “It’s the same team that’s finishing Starfield, which comes out this September. So we’re talking about a game that’s like five-plus years away.”

While many believed that The Elder Scrolls VI was a few years away, now we have confirmation that we are looking at 2028 at the earliest.

Given that the announcement teaser trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI was released in 2018, if Spencer’s estimation of “five-plus years” is accurate, that means the game’s debut will come at least a decade after its announcement. Here’s to hoping Starfield can keep Bethesda fans busy for those five-plus years.
