Stellar Blade is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, and that announcement says as much about the sequel as it does the original. Confirmed during the latest Nintendo Direct, the Switch 2 version gives Eve’s debut a third home after its PlayStation 5 launch in 2024 and its PC release in 2025.
That sequel, Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, was revealed at Summer Game Fest earlier this month, with Shift Up self-publishing it rather than going through Sony. The original shipped as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive before reaching PC, but Shift Up has said it wants Blood Rain to reach a broad global audience from day one. With the first game now expanding to Switch 2 and the studio steering its own release, a single-console exclusive sequel looks unlikely, even if Shift Up hasn’t locked in platforms yet.
On Switch 2, Stellar Blade casts you as Eve, an elite warrior sent to reclaim Earth from mysterious forces through a twisting sci-fi plot. It carries the same deep character progression across skills, gear, and combat builds, leans on demanding boss encounters, and adds Joy-Con 2 motion controls for activities away from combat.
In our review, I called Stellar Blade a remarkable success for Shift Up’s first AAA game and hoped it would mark the start of a franchise. Blood Rain is that franchise taking shape, and it now looks like more players than ever will get to see where this world goes next.
