We thought we had waited until the last possible minute to publish our calendar of 2025 summer gaming events last evening, but Sony went even further. A State of Play was announced earlier this morning for tomorrow, June 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM Pacific (5:00 PM Eastern), and will feature over 40 minutes of PlayStation 5 games from developers around the world. A broadcast was expected since this week is Summer Game Fest, but it feels like Sony intentionally made it the day before the Switch 2’s official release on June 5.

As usual, Sony didn’t set any expectations, but given that Sucker Punch has already announced the release date for Ghost of Yōtei, I personally expect a major announcement or two. As of today, Ghost of Yōtei is arguably the biggest release PlayStation has left for the remainder of the year—that we know of. The fact that its release date was announced prior to this year’s summer gaming events likely means PlayStation has something else to shine the spotlight on.

Regardless, we’ll likely see another trailer for Ghost of Yōtei, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and possibly Marathon, although the rumors surrounding that game aren’t good. It would be nice to see more on Housemarque’s Saros, which was announced during February’s State of Play. Resident Evil fans are hoping for an announcement, while Kingdom Hearts fans are hoping to see a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV, now that Missing-Link has been canceled. It’s probably too early to see anything on the final game in the Final Fantasy VII remake series. As for me, I’m hoping we get an announcement for a new NieR game, and not a mobile one.
