On March 31, Jagex officially announced its next game, RuneScape: Dragonwilds. At the time, it confirmed that it would launch into Early Access in Spring 2025 with no exact date. Well, that date is today, as the crafting survival game is now available on Steam Early Access. Set on the continent of Ashenfall in the RuneScape universe, RuneScape: Dragonwilds is a co-op survival adventure built using Unreal Engine 5.
Along with launching into Early Access, the team has shared a roadmap for the game’s development. Players can expect a new region to come called Fellhollow, which will be home to a new dragon overlord, The Soul-Eater Imaru. The rest is pretty standard fare for a crafting survival game, including more skills, quests, lore, gear, enemies, expanded base building, and more. RuneScape: Dragonwilds will also add a hardcore mode and a creative mode, catering to two very different player types.
The game’s surprise launch means it wasn’t really on anyone’s radar for April. With the recent announcement that Dune: Awakening has been delayed, RuneScape: Dragonwilds couldn’t have chosen a better day to shadow drop.
“We’re so excited to surprise players with our Early Access launch today and invite them to discover the magical world of RuneScape: Dragonwilds right now,” said Jesse America, Executive Producer. “We’ve been working hard to develop an entirely new type of RuneScape experience that ignites fans’ passion, creativity and love for questing, and provide them with an all-new RuneScape adventure to discover. And this is just the start of our development journey. Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while listening closely to the community to deliver an iconic open world survival crafting game that is loved equally by our biggest RuneScape fans and new players alike. Our community is at the heart of everything we do at Jagex and we look forward to seeing how they shape RuneScape: Dragonwilds throughout our Early Access journey.”
