Earlier this week, Sony announced the PS Vita TV, a device that no one knew they wanted until they saw it. While many are still speculating about the device and what it can do in the future, Sony Computer Entertainment President and CEO Andrew House hinted at the device’s true potential.
According to House, the PS Vita TV will be able to download not only games developed for the PS Vita, but also games for the first-generation PlayStation and the PSP. That much we already knew. But in the future, Sony is hoping that its PlayStation 4 will be able to stream PlayStation 3 games, much thanks to its association with Gaikai. So technically speaking, the PS Vita TV will be able to support PS3 games through the same service.
Even though Sony has yet to announce plans to release the PS Vita TV in North America, it’s pretty much a given, it’s just a rather of when and how much. Assuming that the pricing sticks to the Japanese release, expect the PS Vita TV unit to run around $100.00 – an entry price that would surely make it the most enticing device out there on the market.
