Today’s Pokemon Direct revealed plenty of information on the upcoming Pokemon X and Pokemon Y games being released on October 12, 2013 for the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS systems. In a surprising twist, players of the new Pokemon games will not receive Chespin, Fennekin, or Froakie from Professor Sycamore but rather get to choose from classic Pokemons Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. And once players have evolved their starting Pokemons to Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise, they will be able to obtain the Pokemons’ unique Mega Stone to Mega Evolve them into battle to Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard, and Mega Blastoise.
The Pokemon Direct also announced that players will have a second requirement to fulfill in order for Mega Evolutions to occur. In addition to acquiring a unique Mega Stone, players will have to obtain a bracelet called the Mega Ring that holds a mysterious stone called a Key Stone. The Trainer’s Key Stone will resonate with the Mega Stone in order to trigger the Mega Evolution.
A Pokemon Bank was also announced, a new 2DS and 3DS application that allows Pokemon X and Pokemon Y players to store up to 3,000 Pokemons in the cloud. There will be an annual fee to use the Pokemon Bank, though pricing on that has not yet been announced. There will be a free trial period when the Pokemon Bank hits the Nintendo eShop.
