Developer People Can Fly has confirmed that it will be a co-development partner with The Coalition on the next mainline game in the Gears of War series, Gears of War: E-Day. For those unfamiliar with People Can Fly, the team is behind the most recent Outriders and also contributed to Gears of War: Judgment, meaning they’re familiar with the franchise. People Can Fly served as the lead developer for that title and was also a co-development partner on Gears of War 1-3.
“Returning to collaborate on the next chapter of this legendary saga is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity to build upon the intense, visceral action and rich storytelling that fans have come to love,” said People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski. “We are deeply grateful for our partners’ trust and support on this journey.”
Gears of War: E-Day was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024 last summer and will serve as an origin story set 14 years prior to the events of the original Gears of War. The game is being built in Unreal Engine 5 and currently has no release date or timeframe.
