On August 1, Nintendo announced that the original Switch family of consoles would see a price change in the U.S. on August 3. Now those prices are live. The Nintendo Switch OLED now costs $399.99, up from $349.99; the standard Switch costs $339.99, up from $299.99; and the Switch Lite is priced at $229.99, up from $199.99. That puts the Switch OLED just $50 below the Switch 2’s $449.99 launch price. For those doing the math, the increase is around 15 percent, coincidentally matching import tariffs now passed on to consumers.
It’s an interesting move, considering the Switch is over eight years old, and it likely marks the first time a console has seen a price increase after its successor launched. Given that it has sold 153.1 million units and Nintendo is focused on the Switch 2, one could argue Nintendo cares less about Switch sales and that this price increase might push buyers toward the Switch 2. For now, Switch 2 pricing remains at $449.99, and it will be interesting to see whether Nintendo raises it further down the road due to tariffs.
