Nintendo has shared a pair of new videos showcasing Mario Kart 8‘s new courses, items and playable characters. The upcoming Wii U title will be released on May 30 and will feature 32 courses in total – 16 are new and 16 are remakes. The newest iteration of Mario Kart will have two Rainbow Road courses, with one being a remake of the Nintendo 64 classic and the other being entirely brand new.
Mario Kart 8 will feature 12-player online multiplayer, four-player local multiplayer, a new “Spin Boost” feature for when you’re racing upside down or on walls and live recorded music for the first time in the history of the Mario Kart series.
Some of the new items heading to Mario Kart 8 include a Piranha Plant that attaches to your cart and chomps other players while also giving you a speed boost and a Boomerang Flower that can be thrown forwards or backwards at an opponent. Other remade courses from classic Mario Kart games will include Moo Moo Meadows from Mario Kart Wii, Toad’s Turnpike from Mario Kart 64 and Donut Plains from Super Mario Kart.
