It’s been a while since we’ve officially heard anything about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but Naughty Dog broke the silence today to confirm that the game’s cinematic shoot has wrapped. The studio described it as a very ambitious shoot, praised the cast’s work, and teased that the footage will be shown when the time is right. The post opens with “See you, space cowboy…”, a nod to Cowboy Bebop, which also happens to star a bounty hunter in space.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was revealed back at The Game Awards 2024 and tells the story of Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria, a planet that cut off communication with the outside universe hundreds of years ago. It’s also the project Neil Druckmann stepped away from HBO’s The Last of Us to focus on. No release date has been shared yet.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this update landed on the same day Sony announced a new State of Play for September 3, either. Rather than a tease that Intergalactic is about to resurface there, I read it as Naughty Dog’s way of confirming the game isn’t part of the show.
As for when we’ll actually see the results of this shoot, my money is on The Game Awards 2026. Between the wrap announcement, the tease that the work will be shown when the time is right, and the fact that the game debuted at that very show two years ago, this definitely points to Intergalactic making an appearance in December.
