Each year, The Game Awards continues to grow and set new records. Last year’s show saw over 171 million global livestreams, and that didn’t include viewers on Prime Video. So really, it’s no surprise that we already have a date for The Game Awards 2026, as the show will return on December 10, 2026, live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The date is pretty much in line with past years for the show.

Last year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 dominated the show, taking home nine trophies, including Game of the Year. If Grand Theft Auto VI manages to release this year, it’ll likely be the star. But after 2025, it’s safer not to rule anything out, as surprises are always on the horizon, especially now that more indie developers are taking matters into their own hands.

After everything that happened with Highguard’s release this year, I’m willing to bet that Geoff Keighley is going to find a much safer way to end the show in 2026. I’ll be surprised if he announces a brand new title from an entirely new team again, even if his intentions were good and simply wanting to help Wildlight Entertainment get its game off the ground.
