Back in April, XBOX said its achievements refresh was the first step in a broader set of improvements aimed at recognizing completion and milestone moments, and now we know what it was building toward. Starting today, XBOX Insiders can get an early look at Mythic Achievements, which are earned by completing every original achievement in a game. Achievements added later through DLC or updates aren’t required, and those are tagged as add-on in the achievement list so it’s clear what does and doesn’t count. It’s the same basic idea as a Platinum Trophy on PlayStation, and once a game reaches Mythic status, it stays there.

Mythic Achievements are also retroactive, meaning eligible games you completed in the past, including XBOX 360 titles, have already been marked as Mythic, so some of your favorites may already have the status the next time you open your profile. They show up with a heroic frame in your achievement history under a new Gaming tab on your profile, which also tracks your next Gamerscore milestone badge and lets you revisit the games you’ve completed. You can visit your friends’ Gaming tabs to see which games they’ve taken to Mythic as well. XBOX 360 achievements have been part of this overhaul since June’s Insider preview added detailed achievement popups to those games.

Each game’s achievement list now has a progress bar at the top showing how close you are to Mythic status, with an option to filter down to just the original achievements you still need, and the same progress information appears in the Guide and in achievement details. As with the badge showcase and startup animation options that arrived earlier this month, the feature is limited to XBOX Insiders for now, with XBOX collecting feedback through its Player Voice portal ahead of a wider release. The full rundown is on XBOX Wire.
