Believe it or not, a Vanillaware game is finally coming to PC. Marvelous and Vanillaware used the latest Nintendo Direct to reveal Muramasa: Revenant Blades, and beyond bringing back the studio’s 2D action RPG, it marks Vanillaware’s first-ever release on PC.
Vanillaware has built a devoted following with gorgeous, hand-drawn titles like 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, which we loved, and Unicorn Overlord. In our Unicorn Overlord review, we called it a compelling tactics RPG worth recommending to any strategy fan, with gameplay that exceeded already-high expectations even if the story fell a little short.
Muramasa: Revenant Blades is a 2D action RPG built around swift, sword-based combat across a mystical world dripping in Japanese tradition. You pick from six protagonists and hack and slash your way through the landscape, and this version adds newly added English voice acting, new game modes, 4K art, revamped localizations, and expanded language support.
An enhanced revival of the Wii and Vita classic, Muramasa: Revenant Blades is set to launch in early 2027 on PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
