Mojang surprised everyone at today’s Minecraft Live event by announcing Minecraft Dungeons II, the sequel to the 2020 dungeon-crawling action RPG that went on to reach over 25 million players. The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store this fall, with day one availability on Xbox Game Pass.
Details are light right now. The announcement trailer doesn’t show any gameplay, but it sets the tone for another action RPG adventure set in the Minecraft universe. A new threat is growing across the land, and players will once again team up to fight through dungeons, grab loot, and take on bosses across never-before-seen locations. One interesting detail from the trailer is what appears to be an activated Ancient City portal, hinting at a possible new dimension or underground realm that would be a significant addition to the Dungeons formula. Minecraft Dungeons II is being developed by Mojang Studios and Double Eleven, with Xbox Game Studios publishing.
The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in 2020 and received its final content update in 2022. It was a simpler, more accessible take on the Diablo-style dungeon crawler, which made it a great co-op game for families and younger players but left some wanting more depth. With six years between entries and a much larger installed base across current-gen consoles and the Switch 2, there’s a lot of room for Mojang to expand on the formula. No specific release date or pricing has been announced yet, just a fall 2026 window.
