Studio MDHR brought a surprise to Summer Game Fest 2026, announcing Mighty Cuphead Adventure, a retro spin on its hand-drawn hit that swaps the 1930s cartoon look for a full 8-bit makeover. Built by a smaller team inside the studio, the action platformer was actually programmed in classic Assembly Language and designed to the specifications of the Sega Master System, dropping Cuphead and Mugman into an old-school run-and-gun. It is heading to consoles and PC, though the studio is holding off on a release window until it shares more in the months ahead.

The bigger news for longtime fans is that Studio MDHR also confirmed a brand-new, hand-animated Cuphead game is in development, the first proper follow-up to the 2017 original and its 2022 Delicious Last Course expansion. That project is still in its early stages, with no title, footage, or release window shown yet, but the studio says it has more to reveal down the line.
