When sunset visitor 斜陽過客 first revealed Prove You’re Human back in April, we covered the announcement of the studio’s next game after 1000xRESIST. Now, during Day of the Devs at Summer Game Fest, the team and publisher Black Tabby Publishing have offered a closer look at the first-person narrative adventure, this time digging into the AI at its center.
In Prove You’re Human, you play as the digital copy of a person paid to test a corporate product named Mesa, an entity convinced she’s just as human as you are. The job is to settle into a comfortable virtual world, learn about Mesa, and dismantle her belief that she’s human. The Day of the Devs segment focused on her creation, with narrative designer Pinki Li and artist Daniel Beaulieu walking through the inspiration behind Mesa, how they animated her distinctive face, and how they tied together the writing, animation, and programming to bring her to life.
sunset visitor 斜陽過客 is the Peabody Award-winning studio behind 1000xRESIST, which we called brilliant in our review, and Prove You’re Human is published by Black Tabby Publishing, the label from the team behind Slay the Princess. Studio founder Remy Siu (no relation, I think) framed the game around duality, with players splitting their attention between physical and digital tasks, an idea he says runs through the studio itself, a team of artists spanning dancers, musicians, and filmmakers who draw on their own experiences.
There’s more this weekend, too. The Southeast Asian Games Showcase will spotlight the team and the Southeast Asian influences on Prove You’re Human in a new video on Saturday, June 6, at 8:00 AM Pacific (11:00 AM Eastern), featuring producer and actor Nhi Do, the voice of Watcher in 1000xRESIST, alongside Pinki Li. Prove You’re Human is up on Steam now, with no release date announced.
