The original AION built its name on flight, letting players grow wings and take to the skies when it hit the West in 2009, and AION 2 wants to push that idea a lot further. At Summer Game Fest 2026, NCSOFT used a new trailer to confirm that its open-world MMORPG sequel will reach the West this September, finally pinning down the global window it had committed to back in April. It is launching on PC through Steam and NCSOFT’s own Purple platform.
What sets AION 2 apart, at least on paper, is that flight isn’t just how you get around. You don’t just travel through Atreia. You fight in the sky, fall out of it, and climb back up to keep going. The moment-to-moment combat pairs traditional tab-targeting with a focus on precision, timing, and positioning, while the PvE side scales from solo and four-player dungeons up to eight-player raids built around mechanics and coordination.
The September launch is AION 2’s Western debut rather than its first outing anywhere. The game has been live in Korea and Taiwan since November 2025, and the global release adds dedicated servers across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, plus support for 10 languages including English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, and Korean. NCSOFT is keeping the exact date vague for now, with more reveals promised between here and launch.
For anyone at Summer Game Fest, NCSOFT is following the trailer with three days of closed-door demos for media and creators at the Play Days event from June 6 to 8. Those hands-on sessions are set to show off the flight and aerial combat, open-world PvP, the class system, and character customization, with the studio teasing plenty more before September. Players who sign up for the AION 2 newsletter ahead of launch can claim a guaranteed companion pet, Pagati, plus their pick of one more from four options, redeemable once the game goes live.
