We finally have a release date for one of our most anticipated games of the year, Metaphor: ReFantazio. During a 30-minute special developer livestream titled “Atlus Exclusive,” Studio Zero Director Katsura Hashino, known for his work on Shin Megami Tensei III – Nocturne, Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5, shared the first hands-on gameplay for the title. The director also discussed his development vision and creative inspirations for Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Along with learning more about the premise of the story, the protagonist, and his fairy friend Gallica, we got a glimpse of the variety of allies, rivals, and monsters that will be part of the adventure. The livestream then took us on a tour of the Royal Capital Grand Trad and a local town called Martira. It continued by diving deeper into the gameplay systems, which include Archetypes, a special power that can awaken in various forms. Some of the Archetypes that were highlighted include the Seeker, the Mage, and the Thief. We also got a look at the Gauntlet Runner, which is a vehicle that serves as a traveling headquarters.
The team expects to share more news in the coming months about the game, which is set to launch on October 11, 2024, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Physical preorders are now available at participating retailers, along with a special Collector’s Edition that includes the base game, a Steelbook, a soundtrack, an artbook, Homo Tenta metallic pins, a sticker sheet, a Kingdom of Euchronia cloth map, a costume and battle BGM set DLC voucher, the Atlus 35th Anniversary digital history book, the Atlus 35th Digital All-Time Best Soundtrack, and a preorder bonus voucher.
This year has already been a fantastic year for JRPG fans, especially with how impressive Final Fantasy VII Rebirth turned out to be, along with Persona 3 Reload. We can’t wait to see how Metaphor: ReFantazio stacks up against the competition, but based on what we saw today, it looks up to the task.
