The story of Bungie’s Marathon has been a rollercoaster ride. First confirmed in May 2023, the team at Bungie stayed relatively quiet about the project until a year later. We saw gameplay in April 2025, along with an original release date of September 23, 2025. The game then hosted a closed alpha test, and not much longer after that, Marathon got delayed indefinitely. Overall, Marathon saw a lukewarm reception to its reveal and Alpha playtest, resulting in Bungie going back to overhaul some things. Another closed technical test was held in October, and at the end of the year, Bungie confirmed Marathon would release sometime in March 2026 with a $39.99 price tag.
Now we know that date will be March 5, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Preorders are available now, which grant access to weapon cosmetics at launch and Destiny 2 rewards:

The Collector’s Edition is available at the Bungie Store and includes a 1/6th-scale Thief statue with LED lights, Silkworm miniature, iron-on embroidered patch, six art postcards, premium hexagon packaging with lenticular poster, and a special display box featuring environmental art. There are also two in-game bonus cosmetics, the Zero Step Emblem and Zero Step Background.
With the announcement of the release date, Marathon also shared a new preorder trailer and the voice cast of Marathon. At launch, the game includes numerous notable names, including everyone’s new favorites Jennifer English and Ben Starr, Baldur’s Gate 3’s Neil Newbon, the ubiquitous Erica Lindbeck, Dispatch’s Erin Yvette, and more.
It’ll be interesting to see how Marathon is received, given that ARC Raiders turned millions of new people to the extraction shooter genre.
