Nintendo isn’t taking its foot off the gas following the Switch 2’s successful launch, which saw nearly six million units sold in its opening month. The new console launched with Mario Kart World, followed by the excellent Donkey Kong Bananza in July. While that’s already an impressive first-party lineup for a new console launch window, Nintendo still has Metroid Prime 4: Beyond scheduled for this year. It appears Kirby Air Riders may arrive before Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, as Nintendo announced a Kirby Air Riders Direct for tomorrow, August 19. The presentation will run roughly 45 minutes.
Hosted by game director Masahiro Sakurai, best known for the Super Smash Bros. series, the presentation will give an in-depth look at the upcoming Switch 2 game. Kirby Air Riders was announced in April during the Switch 2 Direct with a very short teaser trailer. At the time, Nintendo confirmed a 2025 release on Switch 2, which would make two mascot racing-themed games in the console’s first year.
The new title is a follow-up to the GameCube’s Kirby Air Ride from 2003.
