Jin Sakai is officially back. Sucker Punch confirmed during today’s State of Play Japan broadcast that the Ghost of Tsushima protagonist is one of four playable characters in Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted, the roguelike combat survival mode arriving October 1 as part of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition. He comes with all four of his original stances, a Sticky Bomb, and a hankyu, and his Ultimate is Dance of Wrath, which disarms multiple enemies at once. His Kill Streak is, naturally, Ghost Stance.
Most Wanted is Sucker Punch’s own spin on the roguelike, and it’s built entirely around Yōtei’s combat. You pick a bounty from a board, each one tied to a member of the Yōtei Six, then fight through waves of enemies and minibosses, choosing perks after each wave to shape a build before the final boss. Bounties can be replayed at higher difficulty levels, and the whole thing culminates in a bounty against Lord Saito himself. Between runs, you spend Mon on new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and character unlocks, and any cosmetics you earn carry back into the main game. As someone who has spent a good chunk of this year in roguelites, and even made one, the loop sounds pretty standard for the genre.
Atsu is the default character, fighting with dual katana plus Metsubushi blinding powder and a Blind Bomb, and her Ultimate summons two wolves. Oyuki brings the kusarigama, kunai, and tanegashima rifle, with an Ultimate that lets her assassinate two enemies under cover of smoke and a Kill Streak that summons a Nine Tails ally. Nagato rounds out the roster with the yari, tanzutsu pistol, and both bows, and his Ultimate fires guaranteed headshots at two targets. Sucker Punch says perks cover weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, and survivability, and they’re the real build-defining choice in a run.

In my review, my biggest complaint was that Yōtei didn’t offer anything significantly new over Ghost of Tsushima, though I did enjoy what Sucker Punch changed about the combat. Most Wanted strips everything else away and leaves just that combat, which is at least a different way to play the game. Whether a roguelike mode is enough to make a familiar system feel fresh again is something I’ll find out next month.
The broadcast also gave a new look at Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara, the story expansion launching the same day. It splits between two periods of Atsu’s life: her time on the mainland during the Battle of Sekigahara, where you learn her history with Nagato, and the present day, where Nagato has arrived in Ezo and is wanted by the Vipers, a group of poachers loyal to the Snake who have taken over the Ashoro Foothills. Atsu reluctantly teams up with him to rescue a close ally, and the new region brings new enemy types, heavy weapons, mythic tales, and armor sets.
Existing owners can preorder the Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99, which unlocks Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara on October 1 along with immediate access to the Digital Deluxe Edition content and the Charm of Hokkyokusei. Preorder by September 30 and the Sakai Armor for Atsu unlocks on day one without having to earn it in Most Wanted first. For anyone who never picked the game up, Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition is $69.99 digitally right now and bundles the base game, Legends, the Deluxe content, new photo mode stamps, New Game Plus cosmetics, and new Trophies for both October additions. The physical Complete Edition also launches October 1.
Everyone who owns the game gets a free patch that same day regardless, adding the Beauty of Yōtei mode for browsing Ezo in Photo Mode, new Watanabe Mode tracks, a high contrast accessibility option, and an option to keep one armor set’s appearance while using another set’s stats. That last one is the kind of quality of life change players ask for in nearly every game with armor, so it’s nice to see it added for free. October 1 is one day shy of Yōtei’s first anniversary, and the full breakdown is on the PlayStation Blog.
