Atsu’s story isn’t finished after all, with Sucker Punch announcing Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition for October 1, arriving one day before the game’s first anniversary. The package bundles the main game with a new narrative expansion called Echoes of Sekigahara, a roguelike-inspired survival mode called Most Wanted, the Legends online co-op experience, and all of the Digital Deluxe Edition content for $69.99.
Echoes of Sekigahara splits its story between two timelines. In the present, Atsu explores a previously unseen valley once inhabited by The Snake and his gang of loyal followers, the Vipers, while meeting Nagato, a figure from her past who has arrived in Ezo. The flashbacks cover Atsu’s time on the mainland, including the Battle of Sekigahara and a key moment in her life before she returned home for her quest for vengeance. The expansion brings new enemies, new heavy weapons, new armor sets, and new dyes.
Most Wanted might be the more interesting addition, at least for me. The single-player mode is Sucker Punch’s spin on a roguelike, where you accept bounties to start runs, earn perks by taking down enemies, and unlock additional playable characters along the way. Atsu masters the dual katana, Oyuki excels with the kusarigama, and Nagato shines with a yari. In my review, I called Ghost of Yōtei a beautiful but flawed game whose truly surprising mechanics were few and far between, so an entirely new mode built around repeatable combat runs is the kind of addition the base game was missing.
Existing owners can grab both pieces of new content through the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99, which also immediately unlocks the Digital Deluxe content and the Charm of Hokkyokusei for anyone who doesn’t already own them. Purchasing or preordering either version by September 30 adds an early unlock of the Sakai Armor on October 1, a throwback to Jin’s family armor from Ghost of Tsushima. The Complete Edition also packs new Watanabe Mode tracks, photo mode stamps, additional cosmetics for New Game+, and new Trophies for both Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted.
Even without spending anything, all Ghost of Yōtei owners get a patch on October 1 that adds the new Beauty of Yōtei mode, a screensaver-like view of Ezo’s environments, plus quality of life features including the option to keep an armor set’s appearance while using a different set’s stats and a new high contrast accessibility option. That armor option addresses a small but persistent annoyance in a game where, as I said in my review, the visuals are the undisputed highlight.
