Irrational Games will be “winding down” said Ken Levine today in a posting on the front page of the company’s website. According to Levine, he has decided to start a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two, which means most of the Irrational Games staff will be laid off, save about 15 members of the team. The company is taking its steps to make sure that the people that are leaving will have support and helping them land new jobs within the industry.

The staff being laid off will have access to the studio to not only say their goodbyes, but to put together their portfolios. Other Take-Two studios will be on hand to discuss possible opportunities within the company while a recruiting day will also be hosted where third-party studios and publishers will also get a chance to interview departing Irrational staff.

As for what Levine will be embarking on, his new goal is “to make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable.” Levine also confirmed that the company will focus exclusively on content delivered digitally. As for the BioShock universe, which has generated retail revenues of over half-a-billion dollars, it will be handed off to 2K.
