The formula of re-skinning God of War with a Hogwarts theme has paid off for Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. In its first quarter 2023 earnings results, the company confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy was the largest release of all time for Warner Bros. Games, and it is the best-selling game year-to-date with over $1 billion in retail sales. This equates to over 15 million units sold, which is impressive even with the Hogwarts branding behind it. Hogwarts Legacy had a great launch, selling 12 million units in its first two weeks after its release on February 7, 2023, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Although Hogwarts Legacy had some issues at launch, mainly on PC, it was significantly better than the PC ports of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and The Last of Us Part I. Today, the game celebrates its launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before heading to the Nintendo Switch on July 25. If you have played Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll know that Quidditch is noticeably missing from the experience. This is because separate game focused on the magical sport is in development.

I find Hogwarts Legacy to be the quintessential 8/10 gaming experience. It does everything well, but it doesn’t really offer anything different. It’s worth a playthrough, but I don’t find anything about the game particularly memorable.
