Anyone curious about MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls will get 72 hours to try it for free later this month, with the Open Beta running from July 24 at 12:00 AM Pacific (3:00 AM Eastern) through July 26 at 11:59 PM Pacific (July 27, 2:59 AM Eastern) on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The beta was first confirmed alongside the final roster reveal at Evo 2026, and now we have the full breakdown from Sony. No registration is required, pre-downloads open two hours before the servers go live, and a PlayStation Plus subscription isn’t needed, though you will need an internet connection and an account for PlayStation on both PS5 and PC.
The beta includes 15 of the 20 launch characters, headlined by Blade, who becomes playable for the very first time. Here’s the roster by team:
- Fighting Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Panther
- Unbreakable X-Men: Storm, Magik, Wolverine, and Danger
- Amazing Guardians: Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, and Peni Parker
- Samurai Outriders: Ghost Rider and Blade
- Knights of Doom: Doctor Doom and Magneto
That leaves five launch characters out of the beta, including Loki and Deadpool, who complete the Samurai Outriders in the full game. Battles play out across six stages: Marvel’s New York in both day and night variants, Savage Land, X-Mansion, Knowhere, and Wakanda.
Beyond the online matches returning players know from the Closed Betas, this beta offers a taste of the modes waiting in the full game. Casual and Ranked matches cover the competitive side, while Versus Mode handles local play against friends or the CPU. The Open Lobby serves as the hub between fights, with 16 avatars in four color variations each, arcade cabinets for challenging other players, and communication through free chat, presets, stamps, and emotes. Newcomers can run through Start Up Battle, an interactive tutorial for the 4v4 tag team fundamentals, and Training Mode includes customizable scenarios and dummy settings. The beta also delivers the first playable look at Episode Mode, covering the first three chapters of the Amazing Guardians storyline as Spider-Man assembles his team against a mysterious threat, told through motion-comic storytelling. Even the localization matches launch, with voiceover in ten languages and text-only support in seven more.
For returning players from last year’s Closed Betas, Arc System Works says the game has continued to evolve, with refined gameplay, improved mechanics, and adjustments across the experience based on community feedback. The beta doubles as the final public test run before MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches on August 6 for PlayStation 5 and PC at $59.99.
