ArenaNet closed out a long wait at Summer Game Fest, finally unveiling Guild Wars 3, the third mainline entry in its MMORPG franchise and the studio’s first new game since Guild Wars 2 in 2012. The action-adventure MMORPG was shown with a debut trailer featuring the first in-engine gameplay, and it is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC, marking the first time a Guild Wars game will land on home consoles.
Set in the series’ world of Tyria, Guild Wars 3 casts players as a Vaelwarden, a guardian of the land of Orr and the people and nature spirits who call it home. ArenaNet is pitching a combat system that blends action RPG combat with the franchise’s signature build-making, leaning on skill use, positioning, and movement, alongside a traversal system that carries momentum between gliding, leaping, sprinting, and riding.
ArenaNet is not rushing it out the door, with the first beta test scheduled for fall 2027 and no firm release date yet. The reveal continues a busy stretch for the franchise, which brought the original game back as Guild Wars Reforged in 2025 and has kept Guild Wars 2 going with ongoing expansions. The series has long been known for its buy-to-play model with no subscription fee, and ArenaNet says Guild Wars has welcomed more than 29 million players across its history.
Guild Wars 3 is available to wishlist now on Steam, where ArenaNet is also taking sign-ups from players hoping to get into that first beta ahead of launch.
