Grounded 2, which launched into Early Access on July 29, has received a new update just in time for spooky season. Joining the world is AXL, a colossal tarantula (because the game didn’t have enough scary spiders). Defeating AXL will unlock new craftable gear, including the Tarantula Armor Set, Tarantula Bow and Spear, and new base decorations. This includes larger-capacity chests (thank you), flickering candles, and a new throne. It’s time to redecorate your base for the Halloween season.

Perhaps the best news is that the update makes it easier than ever to build your base the way you want. The teams at Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos-Montréal have streamlined the BUILD.M grid system, making it even more intuitive to place, snap, and perfect your creations. Buggies, which are mounts and companions in the game, also get some changes. Both PEEP.R and Hot Pouch have been integrated, so players can now scan, swap, and stock up without dismounting.

If AXL’s Tarantula Set doesn’t appeal to you, there’s also a new Praying Mantis armor set that gives off serious plague doctor vibes. It also adds solid healing bonuses for those who prefer that playstyle. While minor, the teams also announced that Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese localizations have been added with this update. Additional languages are in development, and we’ll learn more when a future roadmap is shared.

More surprises are heading to Grounded 2 in October, so you’ll want to spend some time in the Backyard hunting them down.

We loved the original Grounded, playing it multiple times throughout its Early Access period and spending dozens of hours with it at launch. We jumped straight into Grounded 2 when it launched into Early Access and came away even more excited about what’s to come. The addition of Buggies is huge, and the portion of the Backyard you can already explore is impressive. We’re hoping to see more base-building and a greater emphasis on base defense.
