Crate Entertainment said a while back that Grim Dawn wouldn’t go out with a bang, but with a tremendous roar, and now we finally know when that roar lands. Fangs of Asterkarn, the third and final expansion for the decade-old ARPG, arrives July 23, 2026, on Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store. We first covered this back in 2023, when Crate was still targeting a 2024 window, so it’s been a long road to an actual date.
According to the team, this is the biggest expansion Grim Dawn has gotten. The new Asterkarn region spans over six square kilometers, which Crate pegs at 190 percent the size of Ashes of Malmouth and 250 percent the size of Forgotten Gods, with environments running from snowy peaks to hot springs. That’s also where the headline addition lives. Berserker, the game’s 10th Mastery, is a shapeshifting class that morphs into beastlike forms and pushes the total dual-class combinations to 45.
The other major new feature is Ascendant mode, which turns the entire campaign into an endgame proving ground tuned to test even refined builds, alongside a new potion customization system for molding a build to your playstyle. There’s plenty more buried in the notes, from affix transmutation for rerolling rare and magic items to new super bosses, additional Nemesis bosses, and two roguelike dungeons arriving through free updates.
Even if you skip the expansion, the free v1.3 update lands alongside it for everyone. Players can look forward to a full overhaul and expansion of the Stash, which has long been a pain point for inventory management in a game this loot-heavy. The update also adds a UI overhaul, WASD movement controls, HDR lighting, and more detailed item tooltips, plus the usual round of balancing and bug fixes.
We went back to Grim Dawn after Diablo IV let us down, right around when we were also digging into Last Epoch, so a final expansion this stacked is a good excuse to sink dozens of hours into it again.
