Sony announced financial results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2025, in which it sold 3.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles and 80.3 million games across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. First-party titles contributed 6.3 million to that total, with last month’s Ghost of Yōtei selling 3.3 million as of November 2, 2025, 32 days after its release. Approximately 72 percent of those units were digital sales. PlayStation Network also reached 119 million monthly active users at quarter-end, up three million compared to the same period last fiscal year.
For those who like to dig deeper into financials, Sony recorded nonrecurring operating losses tied to Bungie and Destiny 2, including ¥31.5 billion in impairment charges, which helps explain some of the significant changes the studio has undergone in recent months.
For the most part, this year has been quieter than usual for PlayStation Studios, with Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yōtei being its major titles. Days Gone Remastered was also part of this year’s lineup, but that technically isn’t a new release. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also launched on PC earlier this year. Tomorrow, we’ll get a State of Play Japan that will likely preview what to expect for 2026 from developers in Japan and across Asia. Don’t expect to hear anything about Saros or Marvel’s Wolverine, though, since those teams aren’t based in Asia.
