Another month, and another talented studio has been shuttered by its owners. David Goldfarb, founder and studio creative director at The Outsiders, has confirmed on social media that The Outsiders and Funcom Stockholm have been affected by the layoffs at Funcom. As a result, The Outsiders, a 10-year-old studio, is closing its doors. It’s a shame, because the company went through a lot after Darkborn was canceled. Metal Hellsinger came from the team’s loyalty and refusal to quit, a game that launched in 2022 to much acclaim. It’s basically a DOOM-inspired rhythm shooter, and it currently sits on Steam with an Overwhelmingly Positive rating and over 7,500 user reviews. Goldfarb confirmed the team isn’t giving up and will try to get a new lease on life.

Parent company Funcom, which released Dune: Awakening earlier this year, is also the publisher behind Conan Exiles, Aloft, Dune: Spice Wars, and more. We spent some time with Dune: Awakening during its launch this summer and were surprised it wasn’t just a reskin of Conan Exiles. In fact, the game captures the Dune universe well, and as I said in my review, it’s a massive game.
