This year marks the 10th anniversary of the relaunch of the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, and as part of the festivities, Square Enix has unveiled a diorama of Ul’dah, one of the three starting city-states in the game. Created at an approximately 1/180 scale, this detailed diorama measures about 6.56 feet by 6.56 feet (2 meters by 2 meters) and those who are familiar with Ul’dah will recognize many of the landmarks including the markets of the Sapphire Avenue Exchange.
The team shared a video of the diorama’s creation, which was done in collaboration with Walnuts Clay Work Studio. The level of detail and work that went into making the Ul’dah diorama is very impressive. We’d love to see a diorama of Limsa Lominsa next, given its complex and intricate layout.
Creative Business Unit III, the team responsible for both Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI, is currently working on the MMORPG’s upcoming expansion, Dawntrail. The team is gearing up for the next Fan Festival event in London, where more details about Dawntrail will be revealed. Currently, subscribers are enjoying the new content from Patch 6.5, which includes a song that has quickly become one of my favorites in Final Fantasy XIV’s already stellar soundtrack.
