Square Enix has shared the first details on Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.4, titled Into the Mist, which launches on December 16, 2025. Those who have been journeying in Eorzea will know what to expect, as there aren’t any major new surprises in the Patch 7.4x series. Players will get new Main Scenario Quests, a new dungeon called Mistwake, a new trial called Hell on Rails (Normal and Extreme), a new raid tier for The Arcadion: Heavyweight (Savage coming January 6, 2026), a new variant dungeon called Merchant’s Tale, and Tsukuyomi’s Pain (the new Unreal trial).
For 7.4, Duty Support is being added for Dzemael Darkhold and Aurum Vale, while three new Phantom Jobs—Mystic Knight, Dancer, and Gladiator—are being added to Occult Crescent. The patch will also include updates for Phantom Weapons, as well as a new planet for Cosmic Exploration called Oizys. Along with new rewards and system updates for crafters and gatherers, players can also work toward new Cosmic Tool enhancements.
The Glamour System is also getting an update, one many fans will be happy to hear about. Final Fantasy XIV is finally removing the level, class, and job restrictions on gear for glamour purposes, meaning White Mages can glamour plate armor if they want. Unfortunately, because of animation constraints, weapons and tools can only be equipped by their corresponding classes.
Those who enjoy PvP can look forward to PvP Series 10, adjustments to existing actions, and a new Frontline map called Worqor Chirteh. Finally, we’ll continue with more Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures. Patch 7.4 will also bring updates to the Gold Saucer, two new UI color themes (Clear White and Clear Green), a Strategy Panel UI, a new Quick Panel UI, and more.
I consider Final Fantasy XIV one of the best games I’ve ever played, although the most recent expansion, Dawntrail, was a bit of a letdown. I knew it would be difficult to follow up on the excellent Endwalker, but I was surprised how little the team tried to shake up the formula. One could argue, though, that Final Fantasy XIV’s success is due to its consistency in content updates, but veterans could definitely use something new and exciting with the next expansion.
