Square Enix has released more information on its upcoming title, Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns, which will also mark the return of Vanille, Fang, Snow, and Hope. Previous trailers for the game showed that Hope, Snow, and Fang would be making a return, but the special event which was held for the Japanese press confirmed that Vanille will also be making an appearance in the sequel.
The event also revealed another cross-game themed outfit for Lightning, this time inspired by Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Previous cross-game costume reveals include Cloud’s 1st Class Soldier outfit from Final Fantasy VII, and the Miqo’te outfit from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Each outfit can have its color customized by the player while other costumes will allow you to customize parts like accessories, inner, vest, and boots.
The developers also confirmed that the game will span across four continents: Luxerion, Dead Dunes, Yusnaan, and The Wildlands. Luxerion is a capital city with a strong religious atmosphere that will offer two play styles which Square Enix labels “Detective” and “Tracking.” The Dead Dunes, as the name suggests, will be a massive desert where ruins and relics will be buried. Yusnaan will be the city that’s governed by Snow while The Wildlands will be an open world area where you’ll get to ride around a Chocobo.
As time progresses in the game, over 100 types of shops will be accessible to the player. In the beginning of the game, Lightning will only be able to hold six items, though that amount increases while you play.
And oddly enough, Square Enix confirmed at the event that Lightning has undergone some breast augmentation, essentially increasing her bust size for the third game. Of course, the developer’s justification for this was because some of the costumes show off a bit of Lightning’s cleavage, so naturally they’d have to be larger to showcase the costumes a little more. Oh fan service.
Final Fantasy XIII: Lightning Returns will be released on Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 on February 11, 2014 in North America.
