Dying Light: The Beast will no longer come to PlayStation 4 and XBOX One, with Techland announcing it has canceled the previously planned last-generation versions and will offer refunds to anyone who was expecting to play on either platform.

In its statement, Techland says the game was built from the ground up for current-generation hardware, with its open world, visuals, and combat and traversal all depending on processing power and memory the older consoles can’t provide. As development progressed, the studio determined that bringing the game to those platforms would require compromises that would prevent it from delivering the intended experience, stressing this was not “a matter of choosing to leave those platforms behind.” The statement closes with an apology to affected players.

For anyone deciding whether the game is worth a console upgrade, we answered that question last year. In our review of Dying Light: The Beast, we called it a return to form for Techland and one of the best games we played in 2025, a brutal, gory, difficult, and extremely fun experience from beginning to end. That recommendation applies double if you enjoyed the original but came away disappointed by Dying Light 2, since The Beast dials back the sprawling systems in exchange for sharper parkour, nastier combat, and the return of real night terror.

Dying Light: The Beast launched last September on PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, and PC following a short delay, and Techland has kept supporting it since, including a content roadmap that confirmed New Game+. The studio didn’t detail how the refund process will work, only that anyone expecting to play on PlayStation 4 or XBOX One is eligible.
