The team behind Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios, made a splash at The Game Awards 2025 with a rather spicy trailer for its next game, Divinity. We’re going to assume it’s still a few years away, though, so if you’re interested in learning more about the world of Rivellon, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now available on current-gen consoles including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. Originally exiting Early Access in September 2017, Divinity: Original Sin 2 later received the Definitive Edition in 2018, and that’s the version getting a surprise release.
If you’re new to the Divinity: Original Sin franchise, it’s recommended to play the first game before diving into the sequel. While it can be experienced on its own, there’s a lot of world-building in the original. If your first experience with Larian Studios as a developer came with Baldur’s Gate 3, then it’s definitely worth your time and money to check out both Divinity: Original Sin titles. It’ll also be a good way to get you ready for Divinity since there will be some continuity and characters in the newly announced game, even though it will be a completely new story.
In Divinity: Original Sin 2, players get to choose from five playable races: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Lizard, and Undead. It’s worth noting that Divinity: Original Sin 2 doesn’t use Dungeons & Dragons rules, but rather its own classless character-building and combat system. If you already own Divinity: Original Sin 2 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Switch, you can download the upgrade pack for free. Those who are based in Japan will have to pay just ¥100 to upgrade on Switch and PlayStation 4.
