The studio behind Until Dawn and The Quarry, Supermassive Games, has announced that Directive 8020 is launching on May 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The sci-fi survival horror game focuses on delivering a narrative adventure, as you’d expect from Supermassive Games. At the center of it all is choice-based gameplay, and today’s trailer gives a preview of what players can expect from Directive 8020.
We are introduced to Cooper, the ship’s medic, who is fueled by paranoia and has to decide whether to release her crewmate, Mitchell, from behind a sealed door. Cooper, who isn’t sure whether Mitchell is human, has to choose what to do. Supermassive Games says this moment underscores a core theme of the game, trust no one, as every action has consequences. The trailer also shows on-planet gameplay of Tau Ceti f for the first time.
Debuting in Directive 8020 are Turning Points, a new feature for The Dark Pictures, which lets players rewind and revisit key decisions. This allows them to uncover every possible outcome without having to play through the entire game all over again. It’s important to note that Turning Points are optional, especially for players who don’t like to explore every option in a narrative adventure.
Directive 8020 supports up to five-player couch co-op at launch, while online multiplayer will arrive in a post-launch update. Those who preorder now will get a free upgrade to the Deluxe Edition, which adds The Dark Pictures Outfit Pack, The Dark Pictures Collectables, Cinematic Filter Pack, Digital Soundtrack, and Digital Artbook.
