With the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze arriving today, Nintendo has officially announced that Diddy Kong will be joining the roster in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. game. According to a posting on Miiverse by game director Masahiro Sakurai, Diddy Kong’s flexibility has been increased for the newest Smash Bros. game and is a solid addition to the already impressive cast.

Most recently, Nintendo revealed that Little Mac would be entering the ring and with the addition of Diddy Kong, the total number of announced fighters is now at 24: Pit, Bowser, Pikachu, Fox, Kirby, Samus, Link, Donkey Kong, Mario, Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, Villager, Pikmin & Olimar, Luigi, Peach, Toon Link, Sonic the Hedgehog, Marth, Rosalina & Luma, Zelda, King Dedede, Lucario, Little Mac and Diddy Kong.

With Yoshi’s New Island releasing on March 14, 2014, we expect that Nintendo will add Yoshi to the roster then.
