The Deep Rock Galactic franchise is growing some more, following the release of Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor earlier this year. Developer Ghost Ship Games has shared a pre-alpha teaser for Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, a one-to-four-player FPS roguelite with destructible environments and procedurally generated caves. Unlike Deep Rock Galactic, Rogue Core has a roguelite game structure, meaning players start with the basics on every mission, but as they progress through each run, they gain upgrades, equipment, and abilities. Difficulty will also increase as a mission progresses, which is different from Deep Rock Galactic. Rogue Core does feature permanent progression between missions.
The game is designed with a “co-op first” mentality and incorporates all the familiar co-op mechanics from Deep Rock Galactic. The team plans to experiment with mechanics focused on creating a “team build” on the fly, rather than four individual builds for each player. Currently, Rogue Core features five classes with plans to add more. For now, the team has shared two classes: the Slicer and the Falconeer. The former has an arm-mounted plasma blade and is designed for close-range crowd clearing, while the latter has a wrist-mounted flying shock drone that serves as an elemental battle companion.
Unfortunately, it will be some time before players can experience Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core. The team plans to launch a closed alpha in Q2 2025, with Early Access scheduled for Q4 2025.
