Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is our most anticipated game of the year, as we are anxiously waiting to see which direction Creative Business Unit III takes the story now that the Hydaelyn vs. Zodiark story arc has finished with the Endwalker expansion. Dawntrail is bringing more than just a new storyline, however, as the game will receive a major graphical overhaul. While it may not feel like a massive, next-generation transformation, all the improvements add up to a noticeable difference. Having played Final Fantasy XIV since its initial launch, I might find it takes some getting used to.
The benchmark trailer is our first real extensive look at the graphical improvements. The textures are obvious, but the lighting changes, clothing, and animations also appear to be much better. The official benchmark download will be available starting Sunday, April 14 from 12:00am Pacific (3:00am Eastern). It will also include a character creation tool with female Hrothgar. Expect more news about Dawntrail, as the ninth 14-hour broadcast is currently underway. This broadcast includes the Letter from the Producer Live Part LXXX.
