Bungie, the original creator of Halo and Destiny, has shared an update on its upcoming PvP extraction shooter, Marathon. In Marathon, players assume the role of a cybernetic mercenary venturing into the unknown for survival. The game debuted last May at a PlayStation Showcase but has been mostly quiet since. Bungie itself has been making headlines with layoffs this year.

Today’s update from Game Director Joe Ziegler shared new concept art and confirmed that character and enemy design is still in early stages. Although no gameplay was shown, store listings for Marathon have appeared online, suggesting gameplay could be revealed soon—perhaps at The Game Awards on December 12.

Extraction shooters have become popular among developers, so Bungie’s approach to the genre will be interesting to see. Bungie has a strong reputation for satisfying gunplay, but that alone may not be enough to make a compelling title.
