Bloober Team, the horror studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, is making a Star Trek game. Revealed during IGN Live today, Star Trek: Shadow Frontier is a mature, story-driven third-person action-adventure that puts a psychological horror spin on the franchise, with Paramount Games publishing. It stars former Lieutenant Ro Laren of The Next Generation, voiced again by original actress Michelle Forbes. After crashing onto a distant planet overtaken by a strange consciousness, Ro has to survive a world as beautiful as it is lethal.
A planet-wide entity has taken over the landscape and weaponizes it, spawning creatures that patrol the surface and strike without warning, leaving Ro to either fight or slip past them. The bigger threat is to her mind: the entity tries to absorb her consciousness, flooding her with haunting visions while her memories twist and her grip on reality frays. The deeper she digs into the planet’s mysteries, the further she’s pulled into a corrupted labyrinth, which is also the only way to confront the demons of her past.
To fight back and dig in, Ro relies on familiar Star Trek tools, scanning and analyzing her surroundings with the Tricorder and using the Phaser to both solve puzzles and fend off enemies. Combat is a choice, with each encounter pushing players to read their surroundings and decide whether to engage or avoid it. Bloober describes the result as a blend of exploration, puzzles, combat, and cinematic set-pieces that rewards patience and observation over brute force.
The studio’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, has framed the project as pairing Bloober’s love of science fiction with “what we do best, horror.” It’s coming to PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The game is already in production but doesn’t have a firm release date yet, currently aiming for sometime in 2027.
