Game Science has finally shown Black Myth: Zhong Kui in action, releasing a 15-minute gameplay trailer that offers a first look at the protagonist in combat along with a glimpse of the game’s story. The trailer arrives one year to the day after the game was revealed with a cinematic teaser at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025. Game Science notes the game remains in early development, with all footage captured in-game from a work-in-progress build running at a 21:9 aspect ratio, and the usual caveat that the final release may differ.
The trailer’s description leans into character, opening with a verse written in Zhong Kui’s voice about grudges, old friends, and walking the Underworld once more. Beyond the flavor text, details remain thin, since Game Science has yet to announce platforms, a release window, or much else about the second title in the Black Myth series. What we do know is that it’s a single-player action RPG drawing inspiration from the Chinese folk figure Zhong Kui, and that it follows a debut that sold 10 million units and pushed past two million concurrent players within days back in 2024.
When the game was announced last August, I admitted the quick follow-up felt a bit premature, but read it as a sign of how successful game development in China has become, and I predicted we could see Black Myth: Zhong Kui within the next three years. Fifteen minutes of in-game combat footage one year in suggests real progress, even if Game Science keeps the early development label firmly attached. That three-year window I estimated still has two years left on it, and I’m more confident than ever that we’ll see this title released sooner than later.
