Overwatch is marking its 10th anniversary at BlizzCon 2026, and Blizzard opened its portion of the ceremony with Hero 54: Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support Hero and ally of Doomfist who is already playable through a limited-time Hero Trial that runs through September 14. He manipulates lifeforce with a scepter, infusions, and bat-like drones, and his full roster debut comes with Season 5 on October 6. Doctrine was introduced through an animated short set at Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, a supermax detention facility inside an Icelandic volcano, where Doomfist leads a Talon strike team to break him out, and that same location is Season 5’s new Escort map.

Season 5 closes out The Reign of Talon, the first year-long narrative arc in Overwatch’s history, and Blizzard says the ending comes with a clue about Hero 55 and where 2027 is headed. The season also delivers major reworks for two original heroes, with Sombra moving from Damage into the Support role and Roadhog getting an overhaul of his own, plus what Blizzard describes as the long-awaited continuation of Dokiwatch. It follows Season 4, which launched August 11 with the revamped Battle Pass, in what has been a busy year for a game that dropped the 2 from its name back in the spring.

Blizzard also announced a giveaway. Playing one game after the Opening Ceremony earns a Mythic Voucher, redeemable in the Mythic Shop for one complete Mythic bundle from Seasons 1 through 14, including the base skin and all of its standard customization levels but not Aspects. Anyone who already owns the base level of every eligible Mythic gets 50 Mythic Prisms instead, and the voucher has to be earned and redeemed by October 5. A new LE SSERAFIM encore collaboration is also live in-game now ahead of the group’s closing-ceremony performance on Sunday, and YOASOBI plays the first-ever BlizzCon halftime show during Day 2 of the Overwatch World Cup, where eight finalist teams are competing live from Anaheim.

Sunday also brings QuestWatch, Overwatch’s first live tabletop RPG one-shot, at 12:00 PM Pacific (3:00 PM Eastern) on September 13. Matt Mercer serves as Game Master in character as Cassidy, guiding Carolina Ravassa (Sombra), Anjali Bhimani (Symmetra), Darin DePaul (Reinhardt), and Chiara Preziosi (Vendetta) through a non-canon adventure, followed by an online charity auction supporting Make-A-Wish. Beyond this weekend, the next Overwatch Spotlight is set for February 2027 with a roadmap for the year.
