Last month, ASUS teased a refresh for its ROG Ally handheld PC, confirming its official debut would come at Computex 2024. That unveiling has arrived, with the ASUS ROG Ally X delivering upgrades to its RAM, battery, ergonomics, and more. Unlike the Steam Deck OLED update, however, ASUS opted to keep the same screen on the ROG Ally X, so no OLED display here.

As seen in the teaser image, the updated ROG Ally X sports a black exterior, a clear contrast to the original unit’s white shell. Internally, it’s the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, but now there’s 24GB of LPDDR5-7500 RAM, instead of 16GB of LPDDR5-6400 RAM. attery capacity has doubled from 40Whrs to 80Whrs, and storage has been upgraded to a 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe Gen 4 SSD. The ports on the ROG Ally X have also been updated, adding a USB 4, enabling it to use an external GPU. Overall dimensions have also been adjusted for better ergonomics, with a more prominent bump on the sides of the back of the device and a curved edge at the bottom. The weight has increased from 1.34 pounds to 1.49 pounds, a small price to pay for double the battery capacity.

Additional changes include improved joysticks rated at five million rotation cycles (not Hall Effect), an improved D-Pad for more precise eight-direction input, and better airflow—ASUS claims up to 6°C cooler touchscreen.

According to the Best Buy preorder page, the ASUS ROG Ally X will be released on July 22, 2024. The device has a retail price of $799.99.
